Starting a Music Box Collection

(for yourself or someone else)

Over the years we have learned some of the best collecting tips from ideas our customers have come up with. You can simply collect any music box that captures your fancy or you can try some of the ideas below:

By Tune - Some collectors collect all classical music, all of one artist's music like the Beatles or Streisand. Some people collect show tunes, others collect inspirational music. And some people collect tunes that they enjoy or have a particular sentimental meaning.

By Item - Some people collect all Disney items, or all trains or dogs. Some people collect simple wooden boxes only. Some collect musical snow globes and carousels. Some collect only Christmas musicals and display them for the holidays, the same holds true for Easter and Halloween. Some collections feature only favorite celebrities or cartoon figures. One of our favorites is musical Angels. Owls and pigs are especially fun too.

By Occasion - Some people gift a music box that commemorates a specific occasion so that when viewed in a collection a whole array of lifetime memories come back. We especially liked a customer who made up a musical car when her daughter was old enough to drive. We also like our photo boxes for displaying weddings, births and performances at school, etc. These quickly become family heirlooms. A little musical lawyer's desk for someone who just passed the bar is really great.

By type of Musical - Animated musicals are really liked due to the fascination people have with things that move. Things that revolve or open and close are really prized. Some people collect items like trains that go through a mountain, birds that move, or items that go up and down as the music plays. The more animation per item, the more it is valued. Some people collect musicals made out of a particular thing, such as brass or tin, or some people only collect musicals in the shape of bells or little houses. You can be as original as you like.
