Personalized Plaques
Most of our wooden music boxes can hold a personalized plaque on the inside lid. We don't make these up for you because then we have to add in our costs. You can have these made up at any local engraving or awards/trophy shop for just a few cents per word. Follow the following steps:
1. Measure the inside lid and select a size that is not too big. If it is too big it will detract from your music box.
For example you would tell the engraver you want a 2 inch by 3 1/2" plaque.
2. Request the plaque in a gold finish. This goes best with wood. Nowadays they make these out of a gold finished plastic. It looks just like brass, but it doesn't tarnish.
3. Select your copy. Below are some examples that make good plaques using the tune titles:
"You Are The Sunshine Of My Life"
Love Ted
12-4-05
I Love You More "As Time Goes By"
To My Sweetheart
Always, Evan
4. Make sure you request that they put a peel and stick backing on the plaque. Years ago we used to drill these into the wood, but the new peel and stick backs work great. You just peel off the backing, center it and press. It stays put. Very difficult to get off. Usually the engraver charges per line of copy. Write or type on a piece of blank paper what you want (copy, size, etc.) and keep a copy for yourself to proofread from later on. That's all there is to creating a box that will surely make them cry with joy!
