FAQ's or Frequently Asked Questions:

Most of our boxes wind up from the bottom or top by a key. The music plays when you open the box lid.

Most tunes play about 14 bars of music in 4/4 time. It usually lasts three minutes or so when fully wound. All tunes repeat after the cylinder has made one full revolution.

No, unfortunately if we permitted that practice for one individual we would have to do it for everyone-consequently tying up our phone lines- just playing tunes all day.

There is no way for us to supply samples of music to the public given our huge list. We initially tried to offer this service but "wound up" (excuse the pun) basically doing that all day and could not remain profitable. We hope you understand. To hear a specific tune there is no fee but you would need to send us the following two things:

1-a blank cassette tape and

2- a postage-paid return shipping bubble paper envelope.

We will then have the mechanism removed from inventory when we have a slow period, it will be tested and conditioned, played and recorded for you, returned and resealed into inventory and the cassette packaged up to send to you.

Some tunes come in certain boxes only. They are installed at the factory. Some tunes are not licensed by the artist and, therefore, not available. Some tunes simply cannot be captured on a mechanical mechanism and are not made. This is especially true of tunes that are very slow or have a beat of some kind. You may want to have us check our one-of-a-kind items. To inquire further click here for MUSIC BOX WORLD email.

We mainly stock our tunes (many of which are rare) for our customers to choose for their boxes. So, for that reason many tunes are NOT available as a mechanism only. However, many of our common tunes which we can easily replace are available for purchase. You need to click here for MUSIC BOX WORLD email to find out if the tune you are looking for is available by itself and what the cost is. This research is done by email only, we cannot check over the phone.

All mechanism orders come with two screws and a winding key. Since this is not our main business we cannot supply any other parts or information on what to do with these. For further information you may want to click here for (FAQ) FREE INFORMATION.

All of our orders take 7 to 15 working days. Rush options are available. Click HERE to get more information on rush shipping and the corresponding charges.

Yes, we do that all the time. We can even include a gift card with your note on it. Click HERE to get more information on charges and special shipping instructions.

Absolutely not! The boxes shown here are the ones we try to stock in quantity. Our inventory consists of many one-of-a-kind items. We can also special order certain type of items. Click here for MUSIC BOX WORLD email to give us further information on what you are looking for. During Christmas we may be sold out of our one-of-a-kind items.

If you are dissatisfied in any way with your purchase simply return it in the original packaging within 30 days. You may either make another selection or have your purchase price refunded. Shipping charges are not refundable. This does not apply to special factory orders which are not refundable. Since all items with special tunes are hand assembled and labor-intensive, any returns due to customer error will incur a 10% restocking labor charge.

Unfortunately we cannot do repairs and we systematically refuse packages sent to us for that purpose. If your music box does not have any animated parts and is STRICTLY wind up, you may want to remove the mechanism that makes the music, out of your box, trace the base onto a piece of paper--indicating where the screw holes and key shaft are, and mail us that template tracing . We can then research to see if that type of mechanism is still available. If you include an e-mail address or a self- addressed-stamped-envelope we can reply as to the availability and cost. Please specify the name of the tune preferred as well. This type of request involves research into older type mechanisms once made and thus takes us a few weeks to process. We absolutely cannot do this over the phone.

We can make up a custom music box just for you!

If you would still like to order a custom tune or a tune that is currently not made, we can make up that tune for you provided the owner gives us copyright approval. If you have written the tune yourself, then it is no problem at all. For information on obtaining the copyright approval, please click HERE.

Music Box Manufacturing Information:

Please send us a wav file or any other type of file with the music you are requesting.

We will arrange it for your approval and then make up one unit of the musical component. The cost of the one unit is $349.00 plus $8.25 shipping in the US. It takes 80 man hours by hand, and we have an ongoing waiting list, so act early for holidays and special events. It usually takes about 4 weeks. Then you have to add in the box you want us to put it into, so keep that in mind.

We make up a standard 18 note music movement (the little ones you typically see in standard jewelry boxes). We can make up larger movements if you need them, their costs start at $600 depending on how much music you need.

If you want multiple units by machine, there is a 2,000 piece minimum. Please enquire separately about prices and delivery.
